Born in 1982, Etienne Lamatelle starts studying the trombone at the music school of Joué-lès-Tours, then at the Conservatoire de Tours with Thierry Guilbert, where he gets a gold medal as well as a First Prize of the Région Centre.

He goes on with his studies at the CNR of Boulogne-Billancourt with Jean Raffard and gets a Second Prize at the national trombone competition of Aulnoye Aymeries and a Third Prize at the Trio Competition of Troyes. In 2006, he gets his DFS (High Formation Diploma) grade A unanimously at the CNSMD of Paris, in Gilles Millière’s class and, for two years, plays with the Youth French Orchestra conducted by Emmanuel Krivine.

He played in various orchestras such as the National Orchestra of France, the Paris Opera, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Lille, Strasbourg, Tours orchestras… He is a member of the Orchestre des Gardiens de la Paix de la Préfecture de Police de Paris and teach the trombone in the Paris 13th district conservatory
